A protected token's location still matters. In Ludo Ghar, safe squares permit mixed occupants without capture; home columns exclude opponents and prevent capture. The following paper-board exercise applies that limited distinction, not every Ludo product's rules.
Give spaces names before placing tokens
Draw one shared-track square labelled S and mark it safe. Separately draw two consecutive red home-column spaces, R1 and R2. Use one red and one blue counter. These are invented exercise labels, not official board coordinates. Do not connect S directly to R1: the drawing is a location comparison, not a complete movement route.
Two colours on S
Place both counters on S. The record is: red location S; blue location S; red home-column occupants zero. Neither counter changes its colour identity because it shares a square with the other.
A photograph showing both counters on one square is therefore not enough to call the position a capture. In this example, the visible safe marking and the shared-track location explain why both remain. Counting two pieces does not establish that either has entered a finishing lane.
One colour inside the private lane
Reset the drawing. Put red at R1 and blue at S. There is now one counter in the red column and one on the shared track. Red at R1 has not reached the centre finish simply because it has entered its column.
If a worksheet proposes moving blue from S to R2 merely because R2 is protected, reject that placement: protection does not supply permission to enter an opponent's column. No die roll or complete route has been supplied here, so this comparison does not validate any specific move for red either.
Diagnose an incomplete diagram
Remove the S marking and crop away the board around it. The two counters alone no longer establish what kind of space they occupy. Restore the shared route, safe marking and colour-column boundaries before classifying the position. A useful record identifies both the square's type and each counter's location; writing only “safe” loses the access distinction that this exercise tests.
